Columbia State University, in 2011, honored MLK's Wind Ensemble, under directorship of Travis Kimber.

I personally appreciate his professionalism and encouragement of excellence in his students.  My son was a member of MLK's Marching Band "Kings of Halftime"  (2008 - 2009). I attended practices, performances and volunteered with Band Boosters, in addition to PTA.  Mr. Kimber remind me of my own experience in marching band, under Johnny Williams at Oconee High School, back in the 70s.

Mr. Kimber is the 1st to have an American High School band perform in National Championships held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2006. The MLK Marching Lions, performed  as the exhibition band for the 2006 Field Band competition.

The 1st official countywide celebration of Juneteenth in Laurens County happened via joint collaboration of OCMA Kidz, founded by Chris Johnson and Millville High School Alumni Association, Inc. (MHSAA) , in 2013; 2014 is also noted on the MHSAA site.
