Britain's American colonies broke with the mother country in 1776 and were recognized as the new nation of the United States of America following the Treaty of Paris in 1783. During the 19th and 20th centuries, 37 new states were added to the original 13 as the nation expanded across the North American continent and acquired a number of overseas possessions. The two most traumatic experiences in the nation's history were the Civil War (1861-65), in which a northern Union of states defeated a secessionist Confederacy of 11 southern slave states, and the Great Depression of the 1930s, an economic downturn during which about a quarter of the labor force lost its jobs. Buoyed by victories in World Wars I and II and the end of the Cold War in 1991, the US remains the world's most powerful nation state. Since the end of World War II, the economy has achieved relatively steady growth, low unemployment and inflation, and rapid advances in technology.

Today my future daughter-n-law took a couple of photos and there is a funny video to be shared with family and friends exclusively at socials this #Kwanzaa week. This is the test photo for our funny video, I thanked President Obama for a classy 8-year Administration and high-fived Bobble Head Obama; my DAV Representative gifted me Obama, it was one of her going away gifts when she was leaving Hawaii to return to Georgia-USA. I was looking at the clouds that was covering the clouds. At the end of the video, I fed community cats (their treats are in the cup-holder of my camping chair); then broke down set to go back inside. Today's high was 75 degrees Celsius; partly cloudy; wind practically 0 ... humidity 62%. Seventy-five degrees Celcius in Greater Decatur, GA .... Say what???? ... for those who are having a #White_Christmas and those who are snowed under.
Today is my only daughter's only daughter's birthday. A year later, big brother RAW and Lyric.

Payne, 86, was arrested Tuesday for trying to steal a $2,000 diamond necklace from a Von Maur department store in the Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, Ga., the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Payne allegedly slipped the necklace into her back pocket and tried to leave the store, Dunwoody police told the newspaper. Payne’s decades of theft were chronicled in a 2013 documentary called “The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne.” The Jewelers’ Security Alliance, an industry trade group, sent out bulletins as early as the 1970s warning about her, according to the Associated Press. In November 2013, she swiped a $22,500 diamond-and-white-gold ring from El Paseo Jewelers in Palm Desert. She pleaded guilty to one felony count each of burglary and grand theft and was sentenced to four years in custody — two in county jail, two under mandatory supervision. Arrested again in Atlanta, GA ~~~ December 2016
